Embrase Business Consulting
From Strategy to Execution
Embrase Business Consulting, The Thomas Howe Company Join Forces
Rebranded as The Embrase Group, firm to deliver Leading-Edge Consulting Services to fast-growing Cloud Communications Industry.
San Francisco, Montreal, Boston: March 16th, 2011 – Embrase Business Consulting Inc. and The Thomas Howe Company announced today the forming of The Embrase Group, a full service consulting firm dedicated to serving the needs of companies in the Cloud Communications Industry.
Since 2003, Embrase Business Consulting has delivered strategy and commercialization services to companies innovating in the communications sector. The Thomas Howe Company, for its part, has worked with over 100 companies in the sector providing services in the areas of product strategy, product development while also providing support in various Mergers and Acquisitions activity. Together now, The Embrase Group creates a sum of parts unparalleled in the industry.
"For several years, entrepreneurs have leveraged the cloud to enter and successfully disrupt our sector. At Embrase, we have been fortunate to work with many of these high growth startups, helping them to define and execute on fund-raising and go-to-market efforts", says Larry Lisser, Principal Partner at Embrase. "As the broader sector now migrates to the cloud, we felt the time was right to create a consultancy that could offer a true cross section of knowledge sets to help innovators and market leaders alike claim their unique market position, grow revenues and build shareholder value."
The firm's offerings are designed accommodate the needs of companies innovating in cloud communications, of those seeking growth through new product offerings or market segments, as well as for those leveraging acquisition opportunities to enter this exciting market.
As with other applications and technologies that are finding new lives in the network, cloud communications platforms and services are producing huge efficiency gains and enabling entirely new markets, channels and opportunities. Cloud communications offerings, such as development platforms and text messaging services, share in the advantage of other SaaS offerings as you only pay for what you use.
"Since we began our work in cloud communications four years ago, the market has developed from one of visionaries and academics to one that is poised to rewrite how communications services are developed and delivered. All the members of the ecosystem will experience larger opportunities and challenges, creating needs for more strategic direction and advice than a single discipline could possibly provide. As a single view, be it technology, sales, marketing, or finance, will miss the dimensions of the whole opportunity, I've taken the pledge to provide the best advice for my customers. In our field this takes a team, and The Embrase Group team has the breadth of business knowledge in our field that's hard to find anywhere.
In addition to consulting services, The Embrase Group will continue to produce two market-leading leading events recognized for bringing together innovators, thought leaders and market influencers: StartupCamp Comms and The Cloud Communications Summit. The fourth editions of both events are scheduled to take place in Austin in September of 2011.
Phil Telio, Principal Partner at Embrase concluded, "Thomas has long been respected for his vision and deep understanding of the implications the cloud has on the industry. As the market enters this new phase of growth, and perhaps an industry transformation unlike any we have seen since the break up of the Baby Bells three decades back, The Embrase Group is now uniquely positioned to play an ever growing role."
Cloud Telecomputers Wins Over the Audience at StartupCamp at ITEXPO
Norwalk, Conn., USA - Embrase Business Consulting and TMC today announced that Cloud Telecomputers took top honors at StartupCamp as the audience favorite at ITEXPO in Los Angeles earlier this month.
StartupCamp is an innovative forum that offers early-stage communications companies an opportunity to pitch their solutions to an audience of industry leaders, media and investors. This dynamic, "ready, set, pitch" event enables parties to interact with one another and validate business pitches in a live setting. Of the 35 companies that applied for presentation slots, these five companies were selected and 'pitched' to the crowd of over 200 people in LA:
- AdelaVoice promoted a new and interactive relationship between consumers and their mobile devices through technology that determines intent, and initiates action.
- Vokle showcased a virtual townhall platform that enables anyone to broadcast live to a virtual auditorium, and take live video and text questions from the audience.
- GroupMe highlighted technology that organizes groups of people by SMS and voice. This free technology works on every phone.
- VAL9000 promoted a Cloud-based system that lets physicians and nurses access clinical information systems using natural-language spoken conversations.
- Cloud Telecomputers demonstrated how its platform based on the Android OS brings the functionality of a smartphone to the desk phone to enable customized phone features and applications for businesses.
Cloud Telecomputers' goal is to disrupt the notion of the traditional office telephone, and their message resonated loudly with the audience.
Jim Willenborg, Founder and Chairman of Cloud Telecomputers, said, "StartupCamp was an amazing opportunity for us to pitch our story. The response to "Glass, our Android based IP telephony solution," was overwhelmingly positive with dozens of potential channel partners and customers resulting from our participation. We're extremely grateful to Larry Lisser and his team for putting together a truly innovative networking event for young startups in communications."
Twilio, a leader in the fast-growing field of cloud communications, was back as Platinum Sponsor of StartupCamp, while both Alcatel-Lucent and Skype joined as first time Gold sponsors. Comunicano again chipped in as the Media Sponsor.
StartupCamp co-founder Larry Lisser added, "Thanks to a combined effort of Embrase, TMC, the startups, all the sponsors, Jeff Bonforte, our panel of industry leaders and of course the attendees - the event all came together. We hope to make it even better next time around."
Embrase President Invited as Guest lecturer at McGill University
Montreal, Canada, October 13th, 2010 - Philippe Telio, President of Embrase, is happy to contribute to the next generation of entrepreneurs through his participation as a guest lecturer for the "Creating the Small Business" course at McGill University, Desautels School of Management.

The course provides a practical approach to the many problems likely to be encountered in the creation of a small business. Mr Telio will be one of the visiting executives who will engage in an interactive dialogue on the broader picture of entrepreneurship: "From Vision, Through to Realization".
Mr Telio says: "Being in direct contact with the upcoming generation of entrepreneurs and having the opportunity to openly share with students is always of great value. Knowledge and experience transfer happens everywhere: at university, at events such as Startup Camp and even at the corner coffee shop. It's my way to share and help and I am proud to attempt to make a difference."
Embrase launches and sponsors NextMontreal
Montreal, August 17th, 2010 - In partnership with Ben Yoskovitz and Sylvain Carle, Embrase launches NextMontreal.com, a source for news & opinion on technology and startups in Montreal.
Having Patrick Tanguay as editor, NextMontreal's vision and driving purpose is to be a key hub of news and opinion related to Montreal technology, with a focus on the technology scene in Montreal.
"For years now Montreal has been lacking essential sources of information, a place where people can find out what's happening in the tech ecosystem." says Phil Telio, president of Embrase. "Next Montreal is poised to be the leading source of information for people living in and outside of Montreal."
"NextMontreal's vision isn't to just be a local news source. Certainly we want to serve the local tech ecosystem (and its many communities), but we also want others around the world to know what's going on here. We want to shine a spotlight on Montreal ? not with a blind "ra ra" faith ? but in such a way that we show people around the world that Montreal is a great place to build a tech company and a great place to work." Adds Ben Yoskovitz
Embrase's participation in this project is a natural continuation of its ongoing involvement in the community as it organizes StartupCamp Montreal and participates actively in other activities nurturing the tech scene.

Embrase in partnership with the OSMO foundation spearheads the purchase and creation of the Notman House, home of innovation for tech entrepreneurs.
Montreal, May 13th 2010 ? In an effort to bring together Montreal's IT sector entrepreneurs to create, collaborate and stimulate innovative ideas, Embrase supports and sponsors the OSMO Foundation in its efforts to purchase the Notman House to unite the community in a sort of "clubhouse for tech entrepreneurs".
Motivated by the Open Source, Wikipedia type culture of web entrepreneurs and inspired by the unstructured events, activities and informal workspaces that bind them, Notman House will be a showcase for a new type of work environment, where open innovation and collaborative entrepreneurship contribute to the acceleration of raw ideas into value creating innovations.
The Notman House is a unique property, perfectly suited for this project. It is well situated at the foot of The Plateau, within easy reach of creative people living in The Plateau, Mile End and Outremont, and close to the business community working from Old Montreal, Westmount and the financial district.
The layout of the buildings also makes it conducive to a mingling of the various actors in the Montreal tech innovation community, which is thriving yet currently operating in isolated pockets.
Notman House will provide a variety of workspaces, including "private spaces", "coworking spaces", a variety of public event spaces and a web-cafe. There will also be offices of local venture capital firms and angel investors.
A group of people representing Montreal's IT sector, as well as its entrepreneur community, started a non-profit organization and put down an offer to purchase Notman House.
The group, OSMO Montreal, is made up of venture capital firm Startup Montreal, Embrase business consulting, and the Mile End-based shared workplace company Station C, and other contributors.
"There have been a few events and ad hoc gatherings with groups of tech entrepreneurs," said Philippe Telio, the president of Embrase, and one of the organizers of several tech events such as Startup Camp Montreal.
"The idea is to bring these groups into a central location, and create a sort of clubhouse for tech entrepreneurs to get together and create, collaborate and stimulate innovative ideas."

Embrase launches ReTweet Breakfast - PR and feedback events for startups
Montreal, January 29th 2010 - Embrase in launching a new series of promotional activities aimed at giving local startups a venue and opportunity to get feedback and begin their 2.0 PR launch process. Currently called "Retweet Breakfast", these are meant to be mini pre-launch events hosted by the startup, and attended by local mentors and social connectors. Prior to social media, startups would go through a PR agency and press release processes to get the word out that they existed. With the advent of Twitter, Facebook and the many other social networks this task is much easier and much less costly, however, people of influence are still required if the startup wants to get the message out to a large enough audience. The breakfast sessions bring together one startup and up to 8 mentors. Startup will present themselves in 30-minutes, then mentors will give feedback for 30-mins.
The Goals of these events are:
- Get known - Opportunity for startup to meet with mentors and influencers
- Get feedback - Get valuable feedback from a group of mentors (1 startup, many mentors)
- Get noticed - Hope the mentors like the startup enough to tweet and mention them to their respective networks
- Get fed - Breakfast paid by a sponsor or the startup
If you are interested in hosting, mentoring or sponsoring a ReTweet Breakfast please contact us and we will be happy to try and set one up for you.

Embrase President Gives Keynote on "Expanding Sales into the U.S." at the VETIQ
Montreal, Canada, September 8, 2004 - Quebec-based VETIQ invites Embrase President, Vincent Guyaux, to speak on how to expand sales into the U.S. The Quebec region boasts a large of number of high tech companies. Many of them take advantage of R&D tax credits to fuel the development of products and are then able to grab a fair amount of the Quebec and/or Canadian market for their offering. However, to reach their potential, these companies must expand to new markets and regions. This is the critical point where Quebec high tech companies are challenged as they venture into developing the U.S. market. Finding the right people, implementing the right plan, selling direct or indirect, are just few of the key elements that will lead to business success. Mr. Guyaux uses his extensive business development expertise in North America, Asia and Europe in Telecom and high tech industries to provide a targeted and practical presentation to support Quebec companies with their biggest challenge.

Montreal, Canada, June 16, 2004 - The Quorum Group of the RCT held a panel-based conference in Quebec City highlighting four entrepreneurs and four consultants. The purpose of the conference was to give four business owners an opportunity to present their offerings and current business challenges to the other four panel members, each an expert consultant in technology. Embrase President, Vincent Guyaux, was invited to be one of the representative consultants. The mixed panel served as a real-time brainstorming session and allowed both the audience and business owners to get practical tips and ideas on how to grow business and create strategies.
